Balances Guide

Use the Balances page to check your balances and see where all your assets are located.

Updated over a week ago

The balances page is one of the most important pages for:

  • Checking your balances -> Reconciling.

  • Knowing where all your assets are located -> Portfolio Management.

Let's find out how everything works.

Balances Page

You can view a breakdown of your assets as of now, or you specify a date to view your balances at a historical date.

Date

Select a Date to view your historical balances at any point in time. The balance shown will be for the very end of the selected day.

Selecting a historical point in time, such as the 30 June is the easiest way to check that the calculated balances in Syla, match the reported balances on the holding statement from your exchange.

Tip: Use the date shortcuts at the bottom of the date input to easily select the end of financial year.

If you don't select a Date, then your current balances will be shown instead. The current balance is calculated based on all transactions which have been imported into Syla.

View by Data Source or by Asset

You can toggle between two different views using the Data Source and Asset buttons:

  • View by Data Source: this view is used for analysing your asset balances by data source, and most helpful when reconciling your balances.

  • View by Asset: this view is used for analysing where your assets are located, and most helpful for analysing your portfolio.

Filters

You can filter the balances by:

  • Data Source: only show balances for the selected data sources.

  • Asset: only show balances for the selected assets.

Customise

Click the customise button to enable/ disable optional columns:

  • Calculated Balance Value: The AUD market value of the calculated balance. If a date is selected, then it will provide the historical market value on that date. If no date is selected, then it will provide the current market value.

  • Last Imported: The last date an import (API, CSV or Manual Entry) was done to the corresponding data source.

  • Wallet Addresses: Displays the addresses associated with the blockchain or wallet data source. Click on the address to copy to your clipboard.

Sync

Click the Sync All button in the top right to re-sync all supported data sources. Doing this will import any new transactions, ensuring the calculated balances are up to date.

You can also click the sync button on individual data sources.

Expand / Collapse

Click on an individual row to expand it and show the detailed breakdown.

You can also click on the Arrow in the top left of the table to Expand All or Collapse All of the individual rows.

View Transactions

With a row is expanded, you'll see a link button on the far right. Click this button to view all the related transactions.

Total Portfolio

At the bottom of the page, you'll see a row called Total Portfolio. This is the overall balances across all data sources.

Missing Balances

If you see this row, it means you have some Transfer In and Transfer Out transactions which don't quite add up.

Tip: If you don't see this row, then it means you have no missing balances. All your Transfer Out and Transfer In transactions are adding up correctly. πŸ‘

What causes Missing Balances?

When you classify a ledger as Transfer Out, you're indicating that you still own the asset, it's just been transferred to another exchange or wallet. Syla will continue to track the asset balance, but it won't know where it's located. When the location of the asset isn't known, Syla will record it as a Missing Balance.

You can avoid this by ensuring every Transfer Out has a matching Transfer In, with the same asset and the same amount. This way the transfer amounts will add up to exactly zero, and there'll be no missing balances. When done correctly, you should have no Missing Balances in Syla.

If one of the Transfers is missing, or if the amounts and asset aren't identical, then you'll have a Missing Balance. You'll need to review your transactions to see which one's aren't quite matching up.

You can use the View Transactions shortcut to quickly investigate all the related transfers.
