Roles, Permissions and Billing Owner

Understand the different roles and permissions for users.

Updated over 6 months ago

If you have other users on your account, then it's important to understand the different roles that can be assigned and what level of access they have to your Account.

Roles

The following Roles exist in Syla

Role

Description

Owner

Full control of account.

Administrator

Can change account settings and invite new users.

Accountant

Can change account settings and invite new users. Use this if you're inviting your Accountant.

Editor

Cannot invite new members to the Account.

Permissions

Each Role has a different level of access, for example, an Editor isn't allowed to invite new members to the Account, but an Administrator can.

Change Roles

If you have access to Manage Users on an Account, then you'll be able to adjust the Role of other Members.

1. Go to Settings > Members.

2. Click the Role selector to change the role.

Note: The drop down won't be available if you don't have permission to change the role for that account member. For example, if you're an Accountant, you can't change the role of the Owner.

Billing Owner

There is one special Role called the Billing Owner, who is responsible for paying the subscription on the account. There can only be one member on the Account who is responsible for Billing.

You can view the Billing Owner from the Settings > Subscription page.

Changing the Billing Owner

We recommend keeping the Billing Owner consistent on the Account. If you must change the Billing Owner, you can do the following:

1. Ensure the new Billing Owner has been invited to the Account and has access to Manage Billing.

2. As the new Billing Owner, navigate to the Settings > Subscription

3. Click the Remove Billing Owner button

Warning: When you remove the current Billing Owner, the current subscription will also be removed. You'll then have to purchase a new subscription for the account under the new Billing Owner.

4. The new Billing Owner should then purchase a subscription from the Plans page to become the Billing Owner.
